Take lessons from a certified music teacher, with over 15 years of teaching experience.
About
I have been a working music teacher and professional musician since 2003. My work has taken me all over the world, from exotic, global itineraries on board 5-star cruise ships, to the some of the top music venues in New York City, as well as the homes and classrooms of many satisfied music students.
I graduated from the New England Conservatory of Music, with a B.M. in Jazz Performance (saxophone). I also hold a Certificate of Eligibility in K-12 Music from the New Jersey Department of Education, as well as a Substitute Teaching Certificate (specializing in music) for Sussex County school districts in New Jersey.
I just completed a tour through the Mediterranean, while working as a piano/keyboard player in the show band on board a Holland America cruise ship. I recently relocated to Southern California, and am looking forward to taking on new students.
Experience
I have been teaching music for over 14 years. My teaching experience includes private saxophone, flute, clarinet, and piano lessons. Additionally, I've given clinics, taught group lessons, and directed bands at various music workshops for grades 4-8.
A seasoned teacher, I have had the opportunity to work with a wide range of students, of varying ages, skill levels, and learning capabilities. Years of experience have molded me into a highly flexible teacher, able to adapt quickly and easily to the needs of different learners.
I have helped many students prepare for auditions, concerts, recitals, and competitions. Whatever your musical goal, I am here to help you achieve it.
Methods Used
While all of my students study the same fundamental musical principles, I believe that every lesson should be as unique as every person. That's why I always create new, customized lesson plans and provide individualized materials for all of my students. In my experience, this approach is most effective at increasing the student's musical ability—and it's a lot more fun!
Rather than just going cover to cover through a method book, we'll keep things interesting and fresh by playing music games (especially with younger students), composing our own music, listening to new artists, and working on pieces that are requested by the student.
These methods, among many others, help to keep my students motivated and inspired as they continue to strengthen their technique and performance skills.
Lesson Style
I see every lesson as a collaborative effort between teacher and student, and I always strive to create an engaging and positive environment, where students feel encouraged and motivated to advance their musical skills.
For some, this may mean selecting a piece of music that is of particular interest to the student (perhaps even one of their own compositions), and tailoring exercises to work towards specific goals for that piece. For others, this may mean complimenting technical training with music games or physical exercises, during which the student is able to learn valuable concepts away from the instrument.
By taking the time to build a personal rapport with my students, I aim to not only impart technical skills, but also give them the tools to foster their own creativity, and build confidence that will have a positive impact on other areas of life.
